you go. living social looking like a hero this morning. >> hats off to them. plus veronica johnson is with us this morning as well. want to make you look like a hero. what have you got? >>> the storms came right when we anticipated, around 5:00. they stayed with us just past midnight. these were slow moving storms. had lots of lightning. and because they were so slow moving, they produced a lot of rain in certain areas. down around culpeper. look at that. taking the loop back all the way to 5:00 yesterday. for manassas, for culpeper, areas around warrenton, virginia. between one and two inches of rain because these storms were moving so slow. what's left is was on radar right now. you can see around gaithersburg, fairfax, d.c., all of this moving toward the east. that will be moving into areas like bowie and waldorf. right now this is our strongest cell. that will be staying towards calvert beach area. showers around this morning to go with the temperatures in the 60s, mid to upper 60s currently for your morning commute. patchy fog. 62 to 69 degrees. by lunchtime today, mixture of clo

weather. another humid morning. lots of clouds out there too. storm 4 meteorologist veronica johnson is in for tom and joins us with a look at our forecast. >> you're right, it has been humid this morning, but right now we just have clouds. there's no rain falling from those clouds currently. i do expect that to change, though, over the next couple of hours, especially by the time we get into 2:00 and 3:00 today. here is a look at that radar, as we take a look there with the washington monument and jefferson memorial. gaithersburg, bethesda, areas around bluemont, all dry right now. in fact, we're getting a little bit of sunshine. so as we heat up and with a cold front coming into our area, i am expecting some storms later on. so over the last hour or two here, we've seen more breaks in the cloud cover. take a look to the north and west of front royal, west of fricke there, some sunshine. more of that coming through. high temperatures today will be into the upper 80s. some spots south, perhaps touching on 90. i wanted to show you our temperatures throughout the area, we're 79 to 82. now

. veronica johnson has lots of syllables associated with her name, but the forecast -- >> just call me v.j. we are dealing with a little bit of weather weather this morning. about a third of area seeing some showers. that third is to the north of us. you can see everywhere there shaded in green. it's showers. the lightning that we had. the thunder, the heavier rain, that is now moving out making its way over northern delaware right now. but as i said, some showers moving in. frostburg, hagerstown approaching areas of frederick maryland again and around leesburg, virginia, you will be getting in on some of those showers. all this right along that same weather front that's been stalled out. goes all the way down to areas of kentucky, on through southern indiana and illinois yet again today. temperature currently is at 68 degrees here. it's 69 in philadelphia. 64 degrees in new york city. our high temperature today as we rise out of the 60s there for the morning hours with those showers staying north. noontime we're dry. upper 70s by lunchtime. and then rain and thunder back after abou

well. storm team 4 meteorologist veronica johnson in for tom kierein. veronica, what did you feel? >> oh, i've been dry inside, but really watching the radar, keith. some folks had a few drops, some folks had the heavy rain and we have the gray sky right now. take a look at our rainfall totals where the heaviest rain has been right there. those two to three inch rains around spotsylvania and culpeper county. got the flash flood warning that continues until 11:15. you can see for these areas here around spotsylvania around spotford county. st. mary's county, and this flash flood warning goes until 1:45 because of the heavy a rain that's moving through there. and you can see in the yellow and orange, that's where there's still moderate rains coming through. just south of d.c. and, good news, the heavy stuff has already moved east of culpepper and fredericksburg but coming down hard now in charles county and i'll have more on what we can expect for the rest of the day and the rest of the week and even the weekend, which shows some signs of fall, but i think you're going to like it. >

veronica johnson has the first word. >> we're going to hold on to this for a while longer. did you like this morning? another cool crisp start for us indeed. this is the kind of weather you dress for cool and you dress for warm. kind of split, right? take a look at the temperatures this morning from 60 degrees in d.c., and ten degrees cooler in leesburg at 50. areas like mount airy in frederick, maryland, 45 degrees the temperature this morning. so here we go, folks. we're warming up right now. temperatures in the upper 70s to around 80 degrees throughout the area. 79 in gaithersburg and olney. not a cloud to be found in our sky. take a look at the little pocket of fog. the clouds that formed around it from kentucky down to tennessee. in areas of northern georgia, pretty interesting feature. for us, again, we're just talking about a few clouds and weak front coming our way at the end of the week. as far as your forecast goes, for 7:00 p.m., sunshine. clear skies for us. from 79 to 75 degrees. it's another nice evening for us. and a pretty starry sweet night coming our way, too. 72

shortly. veronica johnson is here with an update. >> this evening rush, we've been managing to get through dry. but tomorrow afternoon, not dry. it's looking very stormy. clouds out there right now. and if you take a look at radar, a lonesome little shower around areas of culpepper. just south of culpepper. the bulk of the rain from charlottesville just south of elkins, west virginia. a lot of that will be driving north, northeastward later tonight. by 9:00, 10:00 p.m., there will be more wet weather moving in, especially down south, up ir-95. it's looking wet for tomorrow morning. i think early on in the higher humidity, we could see some winds blowing at around 30 to 35 miles per hour. but with tomorrow afternoon storms, there's the front. we could be getting some higher winds, up to about 50, and even 60 miles per hour when that front comes rushing on through. there it is at 10:00 p.m., just about ready to make its way out of our area. so how much rain could we get out of this storm system? any of those downpours, any of those drenching storms could deliver a whole lot of rain i
